Hawaii - Free and fun things to do

hawaii.jpgAloha! There are many free and fun things to do when you’re visiting Hawaii. Not everything has to be a huge expense out of your wallet!

Here are some suggestions:

First stop in Hawaii, go to the Aloha Flea Market. You will find many vendors and manufacturers here that sell their goods. More importantly, they have great savings! You will find their tents set up all around Aloha Stadium.

Do you like hiking? Trek on over to Diamond Head in Hawaii which is 760 feet high and gives you a 360 degree view of Waikiki, Honolulu and the Pacific Ocean. Make sure you are wearing good hiking boots and try to take your time getting to the top. It might not be a bad idea to take along some water and most importantly, a camera! You’ll find some beautiful and breathtaking images once you’re at the top that you will want to capture.

Visit the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial Tour while in Hawaii. This memorial has a visitor center which chronicles the history of the attack on Pearl Harbor. You can take a boat shuttle to the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial any day between 8am and 5pm.

Another great attraction in Hawaii is the Honolulu zoo! It is easily the biggest and best zoo within 2000 miles! Here you can find the standard zoo animals such as the lion, the giraffe and the elephant and you can also see rare wildlife like the “Nene” which is a Hawaiian goose and a collection of birds and marsh.

You may also want to visit the historic Battery Randolph, which is the U.S. Army Museum of Hawaii. It was built in 1911 and is a steel reinforced structure which housed two 14” diameter guns on “disappearing carriages” that had an accuracy and range of 11 miles. These outgunned any Battleship that they ever acme across. The Battery has survived demolition attempts and is now the home of the U.S. Army Museum. It’s a must-see!

If you are in Hawaii over a weekend and you have the opportunity to go to church, you should do it. Hawaii is a special place to attend church because it is so friendly and the people you will meet there are from all over the world.

Everyone always looks for the “big” things to do while in the state of Hawaii, and other than the obvious, I wanted to highlight what some of the smaller, more affordable (if not free!) activities on this page along with information about them that will leave a lasting impression on it’s visitors and be just as special.
