Daytona Beach - Fun for everyone

Daytona BeachIt is that time of year again when we start planning summer vacations and getaways. You may be like most people and are looking for warm locations with lots of sun, beaches, and activities. One place you may want to check out is Daytona Beach.

Daytona Beach is known as one of the world’s most famous beaches. Located in Florida, it consists of the mainland and a peninsula that is separated by the Intracoastal Waterway, or Halifax River. The world-famous beaches are on the peninsula along the Atlantic Ocean. Daytona Beach offers wide beaches and smooth sand. In some areas, parking and driving on the beaches is permitted. There are hotels, motels, condos, and houses available for rent for your vacation stay.

Of course, fans of Nascar are familiar with the area because of the International Speedway there where Nascar runs two events each year. The International Motor Sports Hall of Fame is also located there. Daytona Beach is also a haven for motorcycle enthusiasts as Daytona Beach Bike Week, and Biketoberfest are held there each year. Hundreds of thousands of bikers from all over the world visit Daytona Beach each year for these events.

Activities available in the area include golfing, biking, and water sports such as water skiing, jet skiing, parasailing, surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and fishing. Restaurants, night clubs and entertainment are plentiful and you can find different types to fit your style.

There are historical sights and attractions you can visit as well and include:

  • The Birthplace of Speed Park – This park commemorates the first automobile race held 1903.
  • Fairchild Oak – Visit a tree that is centuries-old and is one of the largest oak trees in the United States.
  • Halifax Hauntings Investigations and Research — Investigate historic homes with paranormal activity and go on a historic ghost walk at the Live Oak Inn
  • Jackie Robinson Ballpark and Statue – This is still an active Class A ballpark and is much like it was in 1946 when Jackie Robinson played in the first integrated Major League Baseball spring training game.
  • Old Daytona Beach Street and surrounding area – Tour the streets where the town began in the early 1870s, and includes the downtown Halifax Historic Museum and the Live Oak Inn.
  • Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse – This lighthouse is more than 100 years old and is the second tallest lighthouse in the United States.
  • Speeding Through Time at the Daytona Beach Boardwalk – Come see the
    granite blocks built into the boardwalk that chronicle the history of racing in the area
