Antarctica - The coldest continent in the world
Antarctica is one of the coldest places on earth. It is home to the south pole, and many different kinds of animals that seem to be immune to the cold weather. This continent is truly one of the coldest places in the world, no matter what time of year it is.
There is not as much information on the continent of Antarctica as there is on the other six continents. The reason for this is that the climate keeps most people away, and it is hard to do studies on the type of land on this continent because it is so cold there. In the winter, the top temperatures may be negative twenty. In the summer, the temperature may reach zero at its warmest. It is really difficult to work when it is so frigid outside.
Antarctica, the coldest continent in the world, is made up mostly of ice. The animals that live there and thrive there have thick skin and a lot of fat to insulate them from the arctic climate. Not many people are able to stand the climate for more than a few months at a time.
Explorers went to Antarctica in the mid twenty first century to see what types of animals could survive and thrive in a climate as cold as this. In this ice covered continent, they found polar bears, penguins, and seals, among other animals. These heavily insulated animals all consider this continent their home, and can live there quite happily.
The conditions in Antarctica are not very good for humans to live there. There is no access to communications if something should happen, and there is no food supply to be had readily. It is a tough place to survive in.
When scientists visit Antarctica to do studies, there activities are limited. Everything that is liquid freezes unless it is properly taken care of. Also, there is almost no sunlight on this continent during the long winter months. It can drive a person crazy in no time at all.
The ability to live in absolute darkness and freezing temperatures keeps most people away from Antarctica. There are some scientists that volunteer to go to this continent just to see if they can discover something new about the world we all live in. If they can survive there, they can survive anywhere. This continent, dubbed the coldest continent in the world by the Department of Agriculture, is one tough place to reside.
