Lion Hunting - The king of beasts

lion-hunting.jpgLions are truly one of the most magnificent animals in the world and often appear as a symbol of courage, nobility and power. They are very prominent throughout the continent of Africa. They are also the top predator in any ecosystem in which they occur. They have extremely large and muscular bodies and are treated with awe and respect not only from their prey, but from humans as well.

Lions are extremely opportune hunters and after carefully stalking their prey, will take the closest animal while lion hunting regardless of its age, sex or physical condition. They don’t test their prey for weaknesses like other predators may. Lion hunting is accomplished by using their sight with the aid of their sense and smell. Most lion hunting takes place in the time right before dusk or just before sunrise.

Lion hunting is done primary by female lions. The pride walks in single file lines or fan out in formations as they search for their wildlife prey. They keep a casual body language until they spot their prey, where they will freeze and remain motionless if necessary. They will then charge from their cover at the animal with the pride following behind.

Lions are extremely powerful animals. When lion hunting, they use a killing technique by putting a suffocating hold on the muzzle of the animal. They keep their kill clean and quick with very little biting or tearing. If they are on the hunt for an animal such as a giraffe, they do so by knocking the giraffe off its feet.

When lion hunting, they often drag their prey, sometimes over a long distance if necessary, to a sheltered spot before eating it. They do this so they can eat in the shade and also to help keep their kill out of the sight of any vultures. They may sometimes eat the intestines of their kill but rarely ever eat the stomach. Lionesses and cubs are more likely to begin feeding on the internal organs, whereas the male will more likely take the hindquarters.

Along with lions who hunt their prey, there are also people who enjoy lion hunting. Although controversial, the trophy hunts are done primarily in Africa and a hunter is taken out on a professional guided safari which can sometimes cost a pretty big penny in hopes of capturing this marvelous animal.
