When most hunters think of hunt of a lifetime hospitality, almost immediately their thoughts turn to larger game in remote areas or other states. Some think of trophy Elk hunting in Montana or Moose hunting in Maine. Still others will dream of that trip up to Canada for Whitetail deer and then there are those who would consider a dove hunt in Mexico to fulfill their idea of what would include hunt of a lifetime hospitality. Their thoughts will be of rustic lodging but with all of the amenities. Guides and hosts that greet you with a smile and a handshake are more than willing to share their knowledge and love of the sport.
For my Father and I, we found it 2 hours away from our home, hunt of a lifetime hospitality was practically in our backyard! Growing up in South Central PA, small game hunting was a huge part of my life as a sportsman. I spent many days in the field with my Dad hunting for pheasants, woodcock, squirrel and rabbit. As the years passed there came less and less opportunity to take game. The farms were being posted and, let’s face it; the game just wasn’t as abundant as in years past. This prompted me to book a pheasant, quail and chucker hunt with Susquehanna Valley Game Farm (www.gamebrd.com). Little did we know that we were headed straight for hunt of a lifetime hospitality!
Kirby Bubb met us at the door at 7:45am with a warm smile that’s synonymous with hunt of a lifetime hospitality. After greetings, we went into a beautiful lodge area with way to much memorabilia to soak in for the short amount of time we had. After some great conversation and a few formalities, we were headed over to the fields. At this point I realized what hunt of a lifetime hospitality is really about. Unfortunately, my dog was unable to go due to an injury and without hesitation Mr. Bubb offered us one of his dogs to use. Out of loyalty to my own dog and not feeling right about hunting without him anyway, we kindly turned down the gracious offer. I couldn’t help but think again that this was truly the hunt of a lifetime hospitality.
After a fantastic morning of flushing the game birds, we met back up with Mr. Bubb at the lodge for more hunt of a lifetime hospitality. Being that this was the first time my father and I had an experience like this, I decided to allow Mr. Bubb to take our birds to have them cleaned. What an incredible morning that will last in my memories for the rest of my life. I plan on getting back up at least one more time this year to not only get my dog out, but also to let my wonderful wife enjoy hunt of a lifetime hospitality!
