Camping Equipment - Make your gear last long!

camping-equipment.jpgThat time of year is soon coming around where avid outdoors people begin to think about the camp season. What they don’t realize is that their gear may have taken some hard wear because of the excursions they were on last year. Because of this, some people go out and purchase new camping equipment ever year. That doesn’t have to be the case! I’d like to offer some tips and suggestions on how to take proper care of your camping equipment and what to buy in order to ensure its durability and make it last year after year.

Check for warranties, if any, on the camping equipment you are purchasing. It’s always good to purchase products with a warranty should anything happen or wear before you’ve even had a chance to really use it. Try to select products that are made of durable materials. The weather can really have a wear and tear on your camping equipment so you want to make sure what you’re buying is long-lasting and can withstand any kind of weather.

Test your camping equipment before you actually take it outdoors. For instance, if you’ve purchased a tent, set up the tent in your backyard at home and leave it out for a few days. Not only will you really get a sense of its size, but you’ll be able to determine how to set it up instead of fumbling with it at your campsite. Plus, should anything break or fail with it, you can take care of the problem immediately before your trip. Also, it never hurts to get some reviews and recommendations from others who have purchased the products before you buy them. There’s nothing better than “word of mouth” when you’re looking for an opinion or review on a product that you’re interested in.

Clean your camping equipment on a regular basis, most important after every trip! Get rid of that dust and mildew which can really add up and cause substantial damage if let go. Store your camping equipment properly so you can be certain it’ll be around for years to come. If anything has accumulated any moisture, it’s important to make sure it’s dry before you put it away.

Finally, don’t be afraid to spend a little extra money if you can afford it – sometimes the sale items aren’t always the highest quality items so keep on the look out for that. These are just some simple tips and suggestions to ensure the durability of your camping equipment and save you from having to run out every season and spend unnecessary money on new gear, when all you had to do was buy right and take the proper care.
