Religion In Schools - Arguments against it

religion-in-schools.jpgThere have been many cases stated against why religion in schools is a bad idea. This article focuses on a few key points and arguments that have been made in the controversial issue.

Some individuals have concerns about religion in schools should not be allowed because public school is there to educate children, not proselytize. They feel that making prayer an official part of the school day is invasive. They raise the argument that prayer should be private and school is public so it only seems appropriate that the two should not be mixed. Because public school is for all children, whether they are Catholic, Baptist, Jewish, Islam or agnostic, and because they are supported by taxpayers, they should be free of anything religious. It should not be the duty of teachers and faculty in school to instill Christian beliefs into the children; that instilling Christianity and faith into them is the duty of their parents and family at home.

Religion in schools does not need to be mandatory because people feel that the children can pray individual, silent prayers if they wish to. It has never and never will be outlawed. Setting aside a specific time for religion in schools is wrong because they shouldn’t be mandatory, they should be voluntary.

People are concerned that religion in schools can be harmful because people should be judged by their actions, not by their religious beliefs or how they pray whether public or privately, loud or quiet. Many Americans believe in the power of prayer but many others believe that nothing else fails like prayer. It makes some people feel better while others feel that it takes away their personal responsibility for their actions. Because of this, religion in schools should not be mandatory.

People also don’t feel that there should be a vote on whether religion in schools should be allowed or not because imposing this type of vote is abuse of the school authority. They feel that the school should start to teach their students about the purpose of the Bill of Rights and not to be religious fanatics. There have been issues in some areas where the administrators have asked the students to hold their own votes on whether or not religion in schools should be allowed and this resulted in hostility against those students who were willing to stand up for their First Amendment rights.

Individuals main concern about religion in schools is that it should not take place because church and state should state separate until the end. How do you feel about the issue?
