Siamese Cats - A royal gift

siamese-cats.jpgPeople the all over the world have been fascinated by Siamese cats. There is evidence that these cats existed in Ayutthaya, the capital of Siam, back in 1350 where they were used to guard their temples.

The king of the Royal Family of Siam, gave Siamese cats away as free gifts to his favorite relatives and friends. These cats were also exported from Siam, better known as Thailand, in the late eighteen hundreds.

The first of Siamese cats to appear in England was a gift from Siam to an ambassador who brought them home. They began appearing in English cat shows and then in American cat shows by the early twentieth century.

True Registered Traditional Siamese cats are extremely rare. Their sleek lines, color contrasts, finely shaped long head, deep blue almond eyes, and shorthaired coats make them a living work of art. Their most outstanding feature is their pair of deep blue almond eyes. They are set at a slant that seems to show intelligence and emotion. Not only are they a beauty to behold, but they also possess an acute intelligence, an inquisitive personality, a loving nature and the loyalty of a dog.

Of all the Siamese cats, the seal points are the best known variety. These cats are known for their dark brown markings and their pale fawn bodies, while the chocolate points have white bodies and milk chocolate legs, tail, mask and ears. But it was the blue point that gained official recognition in 1934. The blue point has a bluish-white body with slate blue points. The chocolate point was recognized next. In 1955 the lilac point followed with its pinkish gray points with a white body, making it the most delicate color of all the varieties.

This ancient breed, thought to the oldest breed of cats, has an uncanny ability to communicate with people. The voice of Siamese cats is unmistakably recognized and they can be quite persistent in using it to express their moods or to gain your attention, from kittens to adult cats. They not only speak with their voice but communicate with both their voice and their body. Siamese cats are considered a “people” cat, because they are very affectionate and love to be in your lap and on your bed. All of these qualities make Siamese cats a wonderful house pet. Your local pet store can provide additional information on the care of this pet.

This beloved and popular breed of cats has been featured in American movies such as That Darned Cat, Bell, Book and Candle and Lady and the Tramp.
