PETA - Celebrity free, animal rights organization
PETA, people for the ethical treatment of Animals, is the largest animal rights organization in the world. PETA which was founded in 1980 is dedicated to establishing and protecting the rights of all animals. PETA believes that animals are not ours, to eat, wear experiment on, or use for entertainment.
In 2003 PETA launched a campaign towards one of the fast food giants, KFC; calling the campaign Kentucky Fried Cruelty. The mayor of Kansas City Missouri has proclaimed January 6th “to respect chickens day”. Many celebrities like Pam Anderson and Paul McCartney have jumped on the band wagon to protect chickens against farm cruelty. Paul McCartney along with PETA has joined together in fight with David Novek, CEO of Kentucky Fried Chicken. PETA is hoping that McCartney will be able to reach fans to let them know that KFC means, “Kentucky Fried Cruelty”.
A video tape of Pamela Anderson is also available for purchase for $2.00, with proceeds going towards the fight against animal cruelty. This is a different type of video then the ones Pam Anderson has starred in before. In this video Pam Anderson goes under cover to blow the whistle on the Kentucky Fried Chicken farm abusing their chickens. The video details just how badly the chickens are treated by Kentucky Fried Chicken. These birds are so crippled that they can’t even walk. Live birds are forced into tanks of scolding hot water while completely conscious and are able to feel the pain. A Moorefield West Virginia slaughter house their were workers found killing the chickens by slamming their heads into a wall and then stomping on them to finish them off. Some of this video footage is available to view for free on the web site. Of course, viewer discretion is advised. But it makes you wonder, “what kind of sick people are these slaughter house workers and how can they sleep at night?”
