Cat Care - Tips for your feline friend

cat-care.jpgFrom the time they are a kitten to an adult, cats are extremely intelligent, independent, affectionate and overall wonderful. Those who enjoy their companionship might be interested to read some tips on how to keep them happy and safe and give them good health and the best home life possible. Here are some essentials to know for proper cat care.

Although it’s easy to see how cats can act independent and show that they are litter trained, they still count on people to provide them with water, food, shelter, regular vet checks and most of all, companionship.

An important suggestion for cat care is to get a collar or ID tag that includes your name, telephone number and address should he or her ever slip out the door one day and get lost. Also, make sure to follow the local registration laws.

In my personal experience, I found that the best cat care is to keep him or her indoors. By keeping them confined to safety at all times you’re not only ensuring their safety, but also the safety of your community. Also, it is vital cat care to have them spayed or neutered. This will not only keep them healthy, but also reduce the ever growing problem of overpopulation.

Cat care requires you to give them a proper, nutritionally balanced diet. Always give them access to plenty of fresh water. If you are unsure of how often to feed them, you may want to ask your veterinarian. Some cats do better on a schedule and are given food only at a certain time of day, while others, such as my own, prefer to “graze” and will nibble throughout the day. You have to provide whatever cat care works best.

Try to train your furry friend from undesirable behaviors such as scratching your precious furniture and jumping up on countertops or the kitchen table. Cats really can be trained! With a little patience and effort, it can happen.

Cat care is also part of keeping his or her coat healthy, soft and shiny. Brush the hair on both a long-haired and a short-haired feline because it’s important to remove as much loose hair as possible. When cats are grooming themselves, they ingest their own hair which often leads to hairballs.

Most importantly, when it comes to cat care, set aside time to just play with them! They certainly don’t need the same amount of exercise that a dog requires, but they do need physical exercise and mental stimulation. Besides this, playing with them strengthens your bond.

Cat care requires you to be loyal and patient with your pets. Your expectations of them should be reasonable and try to keep in mind that most of the behavior problems are problems that can be solved. If there is something you’re struggling with, contact your vet or a local shelter for advice on cat care.
