Hair Dye - Consider before committing

hair-dye.jpgYou’re ready for something different! You’ve decided that it’s time to go out and buy some hair dye and make a statement. There are some things you’ll want to consider before you actually go and make your purchase. Most importantly, you’ll want to consider the actual color that you are committing to. Read more on this page below.

If this is the first time you are using hair dye, you’ll probably want to start with something that’s low-level commitment. This way, if you’re happy with your results, you can go onto something that’ll last a little longer. First off, you may want to start with highlights. Although highlights are usually permanent, they are a perfect way to add texture and color, whether they are blond or reddish and they don’t have to be dramatic dyes. If you’re planning on highlighting, keep in mind that you’ll have to pull your hairs with a pick through tiny holes of a plastic cap you’ll wear on your head to do it. The more hairs you pick out, the more highlights you’ll get.

You can also choose to do a more semi-permanent hair dye. These are sometimes called “stains” or “washes” and they are a hair dye product that usually washes out after about six to twelve shampoos. You don’t really need to worry about getting your roots because the color usually washes out before the roots even begin to show. Although, because these semi-permanent hair dye products don’t contain peroxide or ammonia, you won’t be able to lighten, you’ll only be able to add color.

You can also choose a semi-permanent hair dye. These products last longer (usually twenty-four to twenty-six shampoos) and they also don’t have any ammonia. They do have a small amount of peroxide though which enables you to create a more noticeable color.

Permanent hair dye colors use both ammonia and peroxide, which create a change that cannot be washed out in the end. The result is almost always a combination of the added pigment and the original pigment, so the hair dye may look different on you than your friend or even the celebrity you admired who had the same color. If it turns out that you don’t like it, unfortunately the only options are to wait for it to grow out or find a professional hairdresser for some help. I would not suggest adding more hair dye at home on your own to change the color. Don’t risk making it worse!
