So you’ve decided that you want to experiment with some hair dye colors. You set out to search at your favorite department store, pick up the exact color that your friend had which you admired so much and do it yourself at home. Turns out though, the color is all wrong and looks terrible on you. When you’re choosing hair dye colors, it’s not as simple as you think. There are many elements in determining which hair dye colors are going to be perfect for you and look best. You need to take into account your skin tones, the color of your eyes and your natural color. All of these factors are an extremely important aspect of choosing hair dye colors, especially if you’re doing something permanent.
The first thing you want to determine in choosing hair dye colors is which category you fall into. Are you in the warm or the cool category? You fall into the cool category if your eyes are a deep brown or black brown, gray blue or dark blue or hazel. You also fall into the cool category if your natural color is blue black, deep coffee brown, medium ash brown, semi golden brown, dish water blond, salt and pepper or white. If your skin tone is a very dark brown, true olive, medium with no color in your cheeks or a faint pinkish in your cheeks, pale with no color in your cheeks or with pink undertones, then you are in the cool category. When you fall into this category, you want to choose hair dye colors that are a shiny black, cool ash brown or even a cool blonde shade that ranges from a platinum to an icy white.
If you are in the warm category, you most likely have golden brown eyes, green or blue eyes or hazel with gold or brown flecks. Your natural color is a deep brown with gold or red highlights, red, strawberry blonde, gray with a light yellow tint or you’re a natural golden blonde. Also, you’d be in the warm category if your skin is brown with pink undertones, brown with golden undertones, pale with peach undertones, freckled or ruddy. If this is the case, you’ll want to choose hair dye colors that are dark and warm browns, rich golden brown and auburn and golden blonde shades. Highlights are also a great way to add warmer tones.
If you’re still unsure what kind of hair dye colors are going to work best on you, you may want to consult a professional beautician or stylist and ask for their advice or tips, after all, they’d know which hair dye colors will work best on you!
