Dry Skin Care - Keeping it soft and healthy

dry-skin-care.jpgWhat are some of the best products available for dry skin care? There are so many lotions out there and sometimes it’s difficult to choose which one is best for your symptoms. Sometimes it’s best to test out a few different kinds until you find the one that is going to work best for you.

For someone who has symptoms associated with psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema, emollients are usually the first thing for dry skin care. These are moisturizers which some in different formats that help to keep everything moist so it doesn’t itch. They can be found in creams, bath and oil soap substitutes and an overall therapy. Then these are used correctly for dry skin care, they can alleviate the symptoms and save you from having to resort to stronger treatments.

How do emollients work for dry skin care? You need water, lipids and oils to help keep you soft. By using these emollients, the missing substances are restored. You need to test them out and decide which form of emollients you’re going to prefer, whether it in ointment form, cream or lotion. These are usually more suitable if you need dry skin care because of it being very brittle. They’re also usually used best at night time. Apply them liberally and frequent, sometimes just once a day may not be enough.

If you prefer taking a bath for your dry skin care, use bath oils. Bubble baths should be avoided because they have detergents in them which can cause a drying effect. Bathing oils are a pleasant way to hydrate. Add bath oil to your bath water, which shouldn’t be too hot, or apply it directly to a loofah or a sponge. Also, if you are using bath oils with children or elderly, you might want to consider using a bath mat to avoid any accidents from slipping in the tub.

Soap substitutes and washes are also a good alternative for dry skin care. These are non-drying and leave for feeling soft and very comfortable. They usually feel different as compared to regular soaps because they don’t foam. Don’t be fooled though, they are highly effective.

For the best possible dry skin care, wash with a soap substitute in the morning at home and gently pat yourself with a towel. Use an emollient cream or lotion afterwards all over your body. Throughout the day, use the soap substitute when you wash your hands and apply the emollient lotion if you’re feeling itchy. In the evening then, take a ten minute bath with bath oil and after you’re finished, while you’re still damp, apply your emollient lotion again. It’ll make you feel wonderful!
