Organize - Get your linen closet looking beautiful

organize - helpful hints on getting thins in orderHere is some helpful information to help keep your linen closet organized. This is information I took from a web site and made my own.

It doesn’t matter where you keep your linens; how you organize it should be the same. I
If you have shelves and drawers in your closet you will want to make sure they are neatly painted or lined with contact paper. Set your shelves at different heights if your closet allows. If you have a closet that is not so flexible you can use baskets, plastic bins, dividers or plastic covered wire shelving to organize your closet. Just make sure your shelves can support some weight. Let’s begin with sheets and such.

A good height for your shelf to place sheets on is 10 inches. You can choose to organize your sheets by size (for example all king fitted, all king flat sheets) or by set for each bed. You will want to allow 12-16 inches of shelf space for towels. You can group or organize the towels by size or by the bathroom that they will be used in.

If you have bulky comforters or wool blankets and pillows leave about 18 inches of shelf space. It is best to organize these items at the top of the closet because they are used less frequently then other items. It is also a good idea to store these items in a plastic bag to prevent them from getting dusty. Another solution would be to purchase a bin that you can place under a bed. If you have table linens and napkins you can store them in clear cellophane so they are easy to identify. You can fold tablecloths neatly or hang on a sturdy hanger.

Antique linens need a bit of extra care when placing in closet to organize. You will want to have them professionally cleaned first and packed in acid free tissue paper. This will help your items from becoming yellow. You can organize them by folding neatly hanging or rolling and placing in cardboard tubes.

Some other great tips to help you organize that closet is to make labels. I hate to unfold something just to find out it wasn’t what I wanted. Then I have to refold and put away. So, to alleviate this from happening to you make some labels. You can take a few minutes to tag the shelves with adhesive labels or card holders. This is such a neat way to organize your shelves.

Don’t you hate when winter rolls around and you go to the closet to grab your favorite sweater form the previous year only to discover that some kind of pest was feasting on it?
This has happened to me too many times. So to keep this from happening you can place cedar blocks to deter moths from munching on that sweater. You can organize the blocks so they aren’t seen to anyone but you will know they are there, hidden in a drawer or stuck behind a stack of linens. Now you have a pest free sweater.

One last idea to help your linens to smell fresh every time you pull them out is to use sachets to the drawers or organize neatly on top of the linens. They will produce subtle fragrances throughout the closet. This custom dates back hundreds of years when brides were given a trousseau of fine linens meant to last a lifetime. I hope this information helps you organize a great closet.
