Mother’s Day a national holiday that was to be held each year on the 2nd Sunday of May. Mother’s Day reminds us to honor our Mothers and encourages us to do something special to show Mom we appreciate her.
Every Mom wishes for different things on Mother’s Day. Most Moms just want a little quality time with their family, a little extra attention, a break from household duties and ultimately they just want to feel like royalty! Of course every Mom has different interests so it is important to remember your Mother’s hobbies and likes and dislikes, when choosing her gift. We have compiled ideas for every budget from an extreme budget to no budget at all.
Extreme Budget
Some Moms wish big, that little red Miata she has had her eye on will certainly brighten up her day. Or maybe she is more of a gadget lady. Plug her in to the latest tech item she has been researching. The newest Apple iPod nano or a Motorola Razr phone in hot pink may be the perfect gift. Of course jewelry can fit every budget and the larger your budget the bigger the gem, sure to make her eyes sparkle. If she is an adventure seeker take her skydiving, bungee jumping, or buy her flying lessons. Send her on a weekend getaway to that quaint village she has been dying to explore. Is she a sports fanatic? Get her season tickets for her favorite team. If you really owe her for all those teenage headaches, or would like to re-pay some of that college debt she endured… these celebrity priced items may just do the trick.
$100 Budget
So you have a decent budget for Mother’s day, maybe it is more than last year or maybe this is your standard gift-giving rate. You can do a lot with $100! Encourage her to relax by giving her a facial to rejuvenate herself; what Mother doesn’t need a little pampering now and then. Take your Mom out for the evening. Get a table at her favorite restaurant. If she is a movie buff, take in the latest flick after dinner; or maybe she would prefer the local theater house, or how about the latest art gallery. Has she always wanted to try something new? Sign her up for dance or yoga lessons to release some creative energy and help her stay healthy. Again, jewelry is always an option; not sure of her style, take a peak in her jewelry box to get an idea. Does she play golf? Get her a new putter or a new golf bag. A bottle of champagne or a special bottle of wine with a set of hand painted wine glasses would be lovely. Want to get your Mom a new outfit for that upcoming event? Don’t let it become a disaster by purchasing the wrong style or size. Instead take her with you and spend the day shopping, this way she gets some quality time with you and a gift that is exactly what she wants.
$50 or less
There are a variety of items that fall in the $50 or less category. Send your mother her favorite flowers; if she is a gardener buy her something she can plant, or better still help her plant a tree or a long-lived perennial. That’s something she will never forget. If she spends a lot of time in her garden she might like a garden statue or solar powered lights. For those home improvement mothers why not get her started on her next project. Get her a gift certificate to her local home improvement store and donate a few hours of your time to help her with the project. Is she a gourmet cook or does she love to entertain; then a beautiful serving dish or a subscription to a cooking magazine will do. Keep Mom in style with the latest make-up trends and get her the hottest new lip color or a new perfume. Summer is just around the corner; keep her safe from the sun by getting her a hat, sunglasses and some sun block. Maybe she is a fly fisherwoman; spend the day fishing with her and give her a new fly-fishing hat. Remember to keep your Mom’s interests in mind when choosing her gift. You can’t go wrong if you stick to her favorite things.

If you have little or no budget there are still some great ways to celebrate Mothers Day, and believe it or not some of these gifts are the gifts that Mom will cherish for many years. Handmade gifts are still a big hit with Moms even if you are no longer a child. Knit her a scarf, write her a poem, create a mini scrapbook recalling your favorite moments with Mom. Okay, so for those of you that didn’t get the crafty gene you can still make something special for Mom. Why not make her dinner or bake her favorite dessert. Take her for a homemade picnic in the park. Mom will love anything that is made by you. Remember that finger-painted Mother’s day card that hung on the fridge for a year when you were 6. I bet she still has it. If none of these crafty ideas fit why not go with your Mom to volunteer at her favorite charity, take a bike ride or go for a hike. These are great ways to spend some quality time with Mom. Surprise your Mom by cleaning the house, tell her to put her feet up and enjoy a good book while you manage the household chores. Set-up the bathroom as a spa, complete with a candlelit bubble bath, a glass of wine and her favorite magazine. Give her a few hours of uninterrupted time to enjoy her mini-spa in peace. Keep Mom healthy by making her an appointment or encouraging her to have a mammogram screening. Depending on Mom’s age, many times health care screenings can be free.
Regardless of your budget, whatever you choose to give your Mom remember that Mother’s Day is a day to appreciate Mother’s and thank them for the love, guidance and support they give most of us everyday. Take time to do something special for your Mom this Mother’s Day, she deserves it!
