Both of these forms are associated with significant morbidity and mortality and economic costs. This is seen primarily in countries where both the under nourished and over nourished are living. Poor nutrition health contributes to 1 out of 2 deaths in children under age 5 years old in developing countries with infectious disease. 1 out of 2 children die in Africa with severe mal-nutrition health and poor hospital conditions. 1 out of 4 preschool children suffers form mal nutrition health which can severely affect their mental and physical development. Being pregnant and having poor nutrition health in developing countries not only leads to low birth weight babies but it is a risk factor for neonatal deaths, it can also cause mental retardation poor health blindness and premature death. Even if the babies survive not giving them the proper nutrition health causes premature death as well. The other side of the spectrum is the overweight population.

There are 2 out of 3 overweight and obese people now living in developing countries in the emerging markets and transition economics. It is said that by the year 2010 there will be more obese people living in developing countries then in the developed world. Under and over nutritional problem and other diet related chronic disease make up more then half of the world’s disease and cost hundreds of millions of dollars in public expenditure. The world health organization (WHO) is working on fighting these disease in developing countries as well as developed countries in hopes to make healthy living a priority to everyone.
