Starbucks - Fabulous java made for you

StarbucksStarbucks is an extremely large national chain of coffee shops and is headquartered in Seattle, Washington.  The coffee shops in the United States seem to be especially popular among students, both high school and college, and young professionals.

In addition to their amazing coffee, they also serve other hot and cold drinks and pastries.  You’ll find many stores inside other stores, especially in supermarkets and bookstores.

In 1971, the first Starbucks opened in Seattle, WA.  There were three partners, Jerry Baldwin (English teacher), Zev Siegel (history teacher) and Gordon Bowker (writer) who were inspired to open their first store in Pike Place Market where they could sell high quality coffee beans along with equipment.  It only continued to grow from this point on and by 1992, Starbucks had over 165 outlets.  As of February 2006, the official numbers were that Starbucks had 6,216 company operated stores world wide.  5,028 of them are in the United States and 1,188 are located in other countries and United States territories.

Starbucks serves a wide variety of freshly brewed coffees for people which constantly change on a weekly basis.  Their whole-bean coffee is roasted in one of their roasting plants which are located in Washington, Pennsylvania and Nevada here in the United States.  They also have a plant in the Netherlands.

When you go to buy a coffee at Starbucks, you’ll find that you don’t order a small, medium, or large.  Instead, you order a “tall,” “grande,” and “venti.”  There is also a short size which isn’t listed on their menu.  You also have the opportunity to customize your coffee to your liking.  You can choose skim milk as an alternative to cream or even do a half-and-half with using regular and decaf coffee.  Also, you can get flavored syrups and whipped cream at Starbucks along with specifics on how much foam you’d like on your coffee.

You’ll find that there are three to four baristas at a store.  Most baristas have been well trained in coffee brewing and serving and have also received education in the growing and roasting of coffee.  Behind the counter at Starbucks, it is usually divided into three sections: The POS (point of sale) or cash register, the Beverage Station, and the Digital Brewer and Pastry Case.  Some stores also have a Frappuccino Bar.
