So you’re thinking of switching to low carb foods. The easiest way I found was to start the South Beach Diet. Atkins is also very popular. But you have to wonder why the fonder died of a heart attack. Too much of anything isn’t good. South Beach makes more sense. You will have balance and enjoy food in moderation. Meaning you won’t be eating a pound of bacon for breakfast. That doesn’t even sound like it would be healthy. If you want to lose some weight or just have better overall health. Here are some things I have found in the last 2 years of eating low carb foods.
You will need to avoid: bread, potatoes, pasta, beers or sugar. List of things you will be eating a lot of will include: salads, eggs, raw vegetables and beans. Have your home filled with these low carb foods. Low carb foods are low in refined sugar and contain high fiber.
The whole family can enjoy good healthy meals. The first thing I learned quickly is to include a lot of vegetables. They are full of vitamins and really make you feel full for a longer period of time. Why? It takes your body longer to digest raw fresh food than processed ones. Eat low carb foods like eggs and turkey bacon for breakfast also very high in protein. You will feel more satisfied then if you ate fruit loops for breakfast. Cheeses and nuts make awesome snacks. Sugar free jello and soda also good low carb foods. You can use dressings that aren’t low fat. They are actually better. The low fat types require more sugar too make them taste better. You also use more of the low fat dressing because it isn’t as tasty. Pistachios and Peanuts in the shell are good low carb foods. The though is that you have to work harder for them.
There are great books and cookbooks out there with page after page of recipes. My favorite are soups. You can make a big batch of them and keep them all week for a quick snack or lunch. One of my favorites low carb foods:
Tomato Soup
1 can of Diced Tomatoes
1 can of Tomato Sauce
½ cup of Skim Milk
Pepper to taste
Oregano
Basil
Mozzarella Cheese.
Mix all ingredients except cheese and heat thoroughly.
Invite a couple of you friends out to Rudy Tuesday’s and you will find plenty of alternatives. They have a lot of low carb foods on the menu. This is one of my favorite places to eat. They make mashed cauliflower that is out of this world. They also have an awesome white chicken chili. Enjoy low carb foods.
