Burdock Root is a herbal tea in which the roots are used. It cleanses the blood, helps to stimulate the liver, regulates blood sugar and is used as an anti-inflammatory. Chamomile is popular for individuals who want to ease their cold symptoms. It helps to soothe the stomach and calms the nerves. It also is a sleep inducer. Cinnamon is an herbal tea which helps improve circulation, also improves cold symptoms, relieves upset stomachs and regulates blood sugar and menstrual cramps.

Fennel Seeds are used this herbal tea and it helps to soothe sore throats and coughs, relief from stomach cramps, stimulates digestion and also improves your appetite. Ginger is also another root used to help relieve cold and flu symptoms, improve circulation and to regulate blood sugar. Mint is a popular herbal tea that is used to help relieve headaches and for relaxation. Raspberry is an herbal tea that is very high in vitamins and minerals and is used as a menstrual aid and an antioxidant. Thyme leaves are used in teas where someone needs to improve their immune system, ease a sore throat and cough, and it also is an antiseptic.

You can pick up your favorite teas at your grocery store or at a health store or if you’re feeling daring, you may want to try brewing it yourself at home. Here are some ideas on this page for recipes:

Peppermint Herbal Tea
8 oz. peppermint leaves
8 oz. lemon balm leaves
8 oz. fennel seeds

Mix the herbs thoroughly and store in an air tight container. For a cup, use 1 teaspoon in 1 cup of boiling water. Steep for 10 minutes and strain out the herbs.

Sage Herbal Tea
˝ oz. fresh sage leaves
1 oz. fine sugar
˝ oz. grated lemon rind
Juice from one lemon
1 quart boiling water

Keep water at a simmer and add the rest of the ingredients. Steep for 30 minutes. Strain out the herbs and serve either hot or cold.

Tropical Herbal Tea
3 tablespoons hibiscus flowers
3 tablespoons green mint leaves
3 tablespoons lemongrass
˝ cup chopped pineapple
2 oranges, sliced
1 papaya, sliced
1 mango, sliced

In 2 quarts of water, bring herbs to a boil and let steep for 20 minutes. Strain out the herbs. In a large jar or bowl, mix the fruit and pour it overtop. Refrigerate overnight. Serve chilled.
