For those of us that are addicted to caffeine, but would like to get if from something other than coffee, soda seems to be our fix! If you go down the grocery isle in the store, you can find literally hundreds of types of soda! The two main brands that seem to constantly compete are Coke and Pepsi products. You can find their commercials all over the airways, and they are vying for a large market. For those of us that want the caffeine without all the calories than the diet versions are our choice. Coke and Pepsi both have not only a single version of Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi; you can also get them with lemon, decaffeinated (why bother?), and black cherry.
The giant soda maker Coke decided in 1982 to launch a multi-million dollar new product and called it Diet Coke. Many in the industry thought that they would fail unless they threw tons of money at the product, which they did, and within a year it became the third most popular soda sold across the country, trailing only Coke and Pepsi. The executives were ecstatic! Since then, it has become the most popular of the diet soft drinks on the market.
Diet Coke has a slightly sweeter taste than its counterpart Coke. Even though it is widely popular with just about everyone, not just those on a diet, this product has seen its share of criticism. The main ingredient in this soda is Aspartame, or NutraSweet, which has proven to have carcinogenic ingredients when broken down. But according to sales reports, this information doesn’t seem to be hurting sales of Diet Coke at all!
You can see Diet Coke ads on just about any television station, billboards, and newspapers. They seem to have an unlimited advertising budget. You will also see them in movies, in actor’s hands, and even politicians are addicted!
Most people will scoff at you when someone you know has 5 or 6 cups of coffee a day. But many people overlook those that have 6 to 10 Diet Cokes a day as ok! This can be a serious addiction as well! Drinking too many Diet Cokes a day can be harmful to your system as well as coffee! Diet Coke can harm your teeth and your digestion if not careful.
So if Diet Coke is your method of caffeine consumption, please do it sparingly!
