Wedding Rings - Customs and popular bands

wedding-rings.jpgWedding rings are traditionally worn on the left ring ringer which is the fourth finger when you’re counting the thumb as the first one. Although, in some parts of the world, it is custom to be worn on the right hand on the right finger.

When a couple is marrying, typically it’s traditional for the best man to keep track of the couple’s wedding rings and then give them at a moment during the ceremony. In some ceremonies, a young boy who is relation to either the bride or the groom is the ring bearer, and he presents the wedding rings on a small pillow during the procession.

In the United States and also in the United Kingdom, it was more common to find women wearing their bands than men. Today though, you will find that more couples both wear them, except for instances where one of them might be in a profession that discourages jewelry to be worn, such as police, military pilots, trades, and in those cases, a ring isn’t worn. Some couples don’t like wearing jewelry at all and they may come to an agreement that they will not declare their marriage through a piece of jewelry. Some couples opt to wear the wedding rings on a chain around their neck.

Women typically wear their marriage ring below their engagement ring because it’s worn closer to their heart. Although, some say that it should be worn above the engagement diamonds because it “seals the atmosphere of their engagement into the marriage.” On top of this, there are many people who believe that the wedding rings should be worn alone. It is common in the United States for women to wear both on the same finger and they often purchase their wedding rings and their diamond engagement ring as a pair so they will match and fit together. Engraving wedding rings has also become very popular where couples will have something special engraved on the inside of them.

Some popular and quality types of fine metal that are used for wedding rings include platinum, gold, and white gold. Titanium has also recently become a popular metal because it’s very durable and affordable. Typically, gold is still considered the favorite and most exquisite pattern that is worn for wedding rings. A woman usually wears a narrower band while men wear broader ones. There are many different unique styles and designs and it mostly comes down to personal preference as to which one a couple will search for and choose.
