Fashion Designers - Do you have what it takes?
If you have ever watched fashion designers at the events in New York and Paris each year, you may think that their life is all about beautiful women and clothing, then you are wrong. What you don’t see are the endless, tiring hours they spend getting ready for those shows, and the stress that they put on themselves to stay at the top of their craft year after year.
Fashion designers like Armani and Hilfiger are not overnight success stories. These are people who have spent years perfecting their craft and starting at the bottom and worked their way up to where they are today. Today, fashion designers like Bill Blass and Anne Klein showcase their beautiful, couture collection on the runways of Milan and New York each season. Stores like Bloomingdale’s and Saks come to buy their designs. Celebrities clamor to be seen in Chanel and other big designers at their annual Hollywood events. It is the “it” thing in Hollywood to be in designer originals. Dresses that no other has ever worn is all the style in Tinzeltown.
If you think you would like to be like these fashion designers, get ready for a lot of work ahead of you. First you must attend schooling for your trade. A good education is crucial to success. Once the schooling is over, you must apply at any of the fashion designers in your area. If you don’t live in an area where there are fashion designers, you will have to relocate. Probably the best area would be New York. To break into the industry, you are going to have to start at the bottom. You will have to work your way up by showing your clothing ideas to the designer you work for and hope they see something they like. You may have to design for another for many years before your break may come.
If fashion designers have made it, it will be hard for you to break into the industry. You may have to branch out on your own to set your own style. With a lot of hard work, determination and a little luck, you may eventually be able to one-day see your designer clothes on a top model walking down a catwalk. Be patient with your art and one day you will see your clothes in boutiques around the world and you will be able to put yourself with the top fashion designers!
