Clothing Brands - A difference in sizing

clothing-brands.jpgThere are so many different clothing brands that it hard to keep track of them. There are the clothing brands that are specific to surfers, hunters, men, women, babies, bikers, skiers, snowboarders, dancers, runners…and on and on. Is there really a difference?

Yes and no. Clothing brands are all about selling. They are out there to get you to buy. Thus, marketing is a big part of the equation. So buyers beware. Don’t get hooked into buying because of advertising. Of course the models look good! Remember sex sells. Those ads that are a step away from illegal are only trying to get you to buy. The clothing may have a big price tag and be cheaply made.

That said - different clothing brand names can be very different in quality, price and sizing. In the sports world sizing is very important. An item’s measurements around the shoulders, back, arms, thighs, hips or inseams can all play an important part in the way the piece fits on a person. For example, several companies design for the athletic woman. These women have muscles and shoulders. A top or dress needs to be sized accordingly. A snowboarder, male or female, will have wider thighs and need both sports pants and casual pants that are not too tight in the thighs or the pants will ride up. Running gear has its own clothing brands but runners may find cold weather running clothes, especially socks, in the cross country ski clothing brands.

For a sport clothing brand to compete they must pay special attention to the requirements of their prospective customers and design items that fit well. They also pay attention to fashion. And those specific snowboard or skiing or dancing clothing brands do design their clothes for sale specifically to those buyers. You pay for that detail and it may be well worth it.

Studies have shown that consumers come back time and again to the same product. It is often because a particular clothing brand “fits” or is the right “weight” or “warmth”. So do continue shopping around, investigate and search the clothing brands. Check out the manufacture’s website. Many of these sites are very informative and have good summaries and explanations of the product including what the product is used for and what the fabrics are used for as well as what the properties of each fabric are. Detailed explanations can be found about the accessories as well. Websites often do a great job at explaining what temperature ranges the different clothing items are designed or suited for. Be prepared with some basic knowledge in order to be a wise consumer whether in the store or when shopping online.
