Family Vacation - Planning a family activities

family-fun1.jpgFamily fun is often looked on as a week long vacation to somewhere special or a day trip to the amusement park. These, of course, are special particularly they are paid for before we go. Is that a novel idea? To some of you it is. Save every week starting now so that big trip is truly family fun for all, not just the kids. Mom and Dad don’t need the stress of paying for that trip months and months after the fact and often at high interest rates. That bargain trip costs a whole lot more when paid after. Save now. The little bit of interest on your money still adds up to that much less you must save.

What to do while you save? Life needn’t be a sad drag as you patiently wait for the savings to grow. Life is a daily event. Attitude is everything. Family fun is whatever your family determines. But you must make it happen. Many times we have great ideal or read about an activity or place only to find when we have the time we can’t remember what we wanted to do. Keep two lists on your refrigerator. One with ideas to do at home and one with places to go.

Pay attention to what activities give you pleasure, write them down. Do them with your children. You will feel better about yourself and be more satisfied with life.

Board games are an effective means to get the family gathered round the table. With computer games everyone is looking at the screen. Board games are better to establish a connection among family members. If you have a large age range or younger children choose games of chance so everyone is on an equal level with equal chance to win.

Tired and worn out from a day at work? Don’t think you can handle a night of family fun? Dads are often the first to beg off and say they want to watch the news or relax. Playing with you kids is relaxing, I promise. Kids can enjoy the moment. It’s a lesson for us adults. The pleasure on their faces should provide you with some good feelings after you’ve been beat up all day.

A recommendation is in order though. Don’t choose an hour long game. There is absolutely nothing wrong with telling your children that you will play for 15 minutes or 20 minutes and whoever is winning when the timer goes off is the winner and the game is done. Stick to your guns. This way you busy parents won’t put off playing with your children until you have time. You do have 15-20 minutes. And you can do it often.

Do you enjoy cooking? Share your pleasure with your kids once a week or once a month. Determine not to complain, not to critize. Pretend you are on vacation. How would you act?
