So you’ve come to the web for information on Children’s Literature. I hope this page is helpful in picking some books that you will enjoy with your children. There are a lot of places you can find Children’s Literature.
Some of my favorites are:
Your public library: My daughter reads books one right after the other so it’s nice to have these books for a week return them and get new ones. Not to mention my daughter loves to visit the library where we check out the books in the Children’s Literature section and hang out in a comfy seat reading stories for a couple hours in the Children’s Literature section. And it’s free.
Scholastics Book Orders: My daughter gets these every month from school. These books when compared to the bookstore, this Children’s Literature are about ½ the cost. They are for the most part all paperback books (which are easier to store).
Garage Sales: People get rid of books for a quarter. You can’t go wrong with that.
Thrift Stores: I just picked up a First Reader book for 27 cents.
Book Clubs: Although I have never participated in any of these. You can purchase a book collection or series of Children’s Literature.
Bookstores: I was taken back by all of the selections in the Children’s Literature section. There were books introducing counting, learning Spanish, cookbooks, and crafts.
Teachers: They are more then willing to share books from their Children’s Literature collection with your child.
Include magazines, computers, tv and road signs- Ask the child questions about these, let them use the computer etc. It’s just as good as any other Children’s Literature.
Tips and Activities to develop early reader skills:
Picture Books- Let you child make up a story that goes along with the pictures.
Read the same book over and over: That is ok the child will memorize this and “read” it to you one day.
Pick out Frequent Words- Pick one of these words and let your child read it each time it appears on a page.
Make Flash Cards: with colors, numbers, and their name.
