The Star Wars (copyright protected, all rights reserved) saga officially began on May 25, 1977 when the first original blockbuster was released. Opening day of the film broke records worldwide and I don’t believe anyone knew or realized what was about to become of it. The original film was later given the name Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. It became a pop culture phenomenon and eventually had 5 more feature films to follow with an unbelievable collection of collectible items such licensed books, comics, video games, figures and many other products.
Each Star Wars film opens with the text “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…”. All of the films use an opening text which slides up the screen for the audience to read and then eventually the text disappears at the top of the screen into the stars.
The first Star Wars film to open was Episode IV: A New Hope in 1977, followed by V: The Empire Strikes Back in May of 1980 and finally VI: Return of the Jedi in May 1983. George Lucas came back much to every fans long awaited anticipation and released Episode I: The Phantom Menace in May 1999, Episode II: Attack of the Clones in May 2002 and Revenge of the Sith in May 2005.
John Williams composed the fantastic music for all six Star Wars films. George Lucas wanted a grand musical sound, and that’s exactly what he got. Williams tried to make the music fit the individual characters and each were given their own unique theme which usually set their presence being noted in the film, whether it was physically or figuratively. One of the most distinct themes that everyone can usually pick out immediately in the films is the music that signifies Darth Vader.
Star Wars is noted for its famous cast of characters including Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, C3-PO, R2D2, Jabba the Hut, the Emperor, Boba Fett, Lando Calrissian and more. The Star Wars films are filled with excellent special effects and feature Starfighters, Capital Ships, and Royal Starships on planets such as Tattooine and Naboo. There is nothing but excitement and suspense from beginning to end.
Star Wars continues to be ever popular today as it was back in the 70’s and still draws record breaking crowds to the theatres and sells merchandise as if it was brand new on the shelves. It’s a series of films that I grew up with, that I never get tired of watching it at home or hearing about. To visit the official site on the web online, go to http ://www.starwars.com.
