Sound Of Music - Long story short

sound-of-music.jpgThis musical film, made in 1965 is still as popular as ever. The Sound of Music depicts Maria, played by Julie Andrews in a misadventure with a happy ending. As a young girl, Maria longed to be a nun. When she finally grew up and became one, she became very disillusioned with her choice. She was often found doing the wrong things and her convent decided to intervene, instead of allowing her to continue to flounder. They finally decide to send her where she can learn a lesson in life that would hopefully give her a new perspective concerning her calling. Maria gets sent to the home of a widower, Captain Von Trapp, to care for his seven unruly children. Maria is steadfast in her goal of winning over the hearts of the children as she lavishes them with her love.

Here she finds her purpose as she fills the void in the hearts of the Von Trapp family with her charming and witty nature. The children relent of their mischievous ways and begin following her lead. They learn to sing the songs she teaches them, and that helps bring the joy back into their lives they lost after their mother passed away. But what Maria didn’t anticipate, was falling in love with Captain Von Trapp. Now the Sound of Music starts turning into a soap opera drama, because he is already engaged to someone else and she is still on probation, waiting to be accepted by her religious order. Well this was not in the cards for Maria. Soon Captain Von Trapp finds himself hopelessly in love with Maria and they become married and they all live happily ever after.

She is a star that shines bright in this award winning film. Many adaptations of the Sound of Music have been made on stage and Broadway that emulate this actress, but none come close to her singing ability.
