Song Lyrics - Today’s sappy music and corny lyrics!
Does anyone actually listen to some of today’s song lyrics? I mean really listen, to the music, the words and the content. If you actually read the lyrics of some of today’s top music artists you might feel the same way as me: today’s song lyrics seem just a tad …corny. Go on, browse the thousands of sites on the web for free song lyrics…start by taking a look at some R&B lyrics over the past few years.
If you’re thinking modern R&B, one name that should automatically pop into your head is R. Kelly. He is one artist that’s been in the game a long time and is always in the limelight…even when he may not have chosen to be. (Hint: think underage girls and certain bodily fluids). I doubt R. Kelly remembers the meaning of the word privacy. But we’re discussing some of his cornier song lyrics, not what he likes to do in his spare time. Many of his songs come to mind when I’m thinking “corny song lyrics” but I’ll stick to naming just a couple recent ones I came across on a website recently. (Got to love those free song lyrics!) One of his songs that MUST be mentioned is 2003’s “Ignition”. The remix is a great dance song…but take a look at some of the song lyrics:

Ahh, the romance of those lyrics, makes you want to hop right into bed and make love all day long when a man compares you to his car and wants to “stick his key in your ignition.” For some more corny song lyrics from R. Kelly take a look at…just about every one of his albums, there’s at least one corny song per album. Another track or two that comes to mind: half of “Trapped in the Closet”, the song “Chocolate Factory”, “Sex in the Kitchen”…the list goes on. Like I said, take a look at all of his albums.
Now, don’t’ get me wrong…it may sound like I’m bashing R. Kelly. Not at all…as a matter of fact, I happen to love most of his songs, even the corny ones. His music and his voice help you get over the song lyrics. And there’s nothing wrong with corny song lyrics…as long as you can admit they’re corny. With some songs, I’m sure even their owners could admit they’re not the most suave lyrics…but great music and a great voice goes a long way to making some of today’s song lyrics much more palatable to the ear. So go browse the net and take a look at some of your favorite songs and their lyrics. Go for it, thought I’ll tell you…it makes it hard to listen to the song in the same way again.
