Sleeping Beauty, the timeless and famous children’s fairy tale of good versus evil has brought hours of enjoyment to generations of children.
As the story goes, long ago and far away a Princess, aka Sleeping Beauty, was born to King Stefan and his wife. At a ceremony to welcome the royal baby, three fairies Flora, Fauna & Merryweather make a visit to endow her with magical gifts. The most evil of witches, Maleficent, crashes the event and it does not go unnoticed by fairy Merryweather. One offensive remark to Maleficent changes the happy occasion with Princess Aurora, aka Sleeping Beauty as her target. The evil witch places a curse on the young and innocent Princess, aka Sleeping Beauty. The curse dooms her to die before her 16th birthday when her hand gets pricked by a poisoned spinning wheel. Merryweather tries to undo the curse and casts a spell on the princess, aka Sleeping Beauty. The best she could do would be to allow her to sleep an ageless sleep when the curse comes to pass, that is until the Prince of her dreams comes and awakens her with a kiss.
As we turn the page, the king gives Aurora, aka Sleeping Beauty to the three fairies and they take her to their cottage deep in the woods and hopefully, far away from the prying eyes of Maleficent. They raise Princess Aurora, aka Sleeping Beauty as their own child and call her Briar Rose. On her 16th birthday Aurora meets Prince Phillip, the son of a king whose own kingdom will soon join together with King Stefan’s. Immediately she is swept off her feet and falls in love. But the killjoy witch appears again and manages to stir up trouble for the princess, aka Sleeping Beauty by kidnapping her prince and then holds him bound at her castle at the Forbidden Mountain. The three good fairies, unable to stand the princess’s broken heart, head off to the castle to free him from the evil clutches of Maleficent. But how can a mortal prince stand up against the demonic powers of Maleficent’s evil spells and her brood of evil cohorts? First she surrounds King Stefan’s castle with a thick forest of thorns and then turns herself into a fire breathing dragon. She proclaims her evil decrees as she confronts her enemy and in their final conflict, she cries out, “Now shall you deal with me, o prince, and all the powers of hell!” Lightning cracks, smoke gathers and Maleficent rises to be defeated by Prince Philip bravery, along with the help of the three faithful fairies. He begins his search for Princess Aurora, aka Sleeping Beauty and awakens her with the kiss of true love and quickly brings her home to live happily ever after! The End!
