Molly Ringwald - Growing up in the spotlight

Molly RingwaldMolly Ringwald is one of the few celebrities that still use their real names, probably because it is so unusual. She was born on February 18, 1968 in Roseville California.  Her father, bind jazz pianist, Bob set the stage for Molly Ringwald future success in the media.  Young Molly Ringwald grew up on the stage, making appearances in her father’s band, the Dixieland Band of The Fulton Street Jazz Band from Sacramento, California.  At six years old she got her first album released called “I Wanna Be Loved By You.”

When Molly Ringwald was five years old she starred as the dormouse in a stage production of “Alice in Wonderland.”  Then at eight years old she became a Mouseketeer on the TV show, “New Mickey Mouse Club.”  From these small beginnings playing mice she got her big break at ten years old playing in the production of “Annie.”  Next she graduated to appear on “The Facts of Life”, as Miss Parker, but was pulled from the show about a year later.  Then she found herself out of work for the next year, waiting for her next big break.

She began to be in demand in 1982 when she appeared in her first Shakespearean based film called “Tempest”, but she didn’t become a box office hit that was soon to come.

It wasn’t until a few low budgeted movies that Molly Ringwald found herself with a box office hit movie “Sixteen Candles”, which became popular for its music track.  That was when she became acquainted with director, John Hughes and played a teen named Samantha, whose parents forgot her 16th birthday.  In the movie, she is secretly in love with a guy who doesn’t know she’s alive.  It was this movie that gained Molly Ringwald acceptance and was the beginning of a huge following of fans.

Her movie success did not end there, but continued with “The Breakfast Club” in which she played a spoiled brat princess. She usually spent Saturdays with fellow actresses Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall and Ally Sheedy in the privacy of their homes.

Molly Ringwald made her biggest hit movie, “Pretty in Pink”.  This was the last film she would make with director John Hughes.  She played a girl named Andie, from the wrong side of the tracks who was in love with Blane, a seemingly  unattainable love interest.

The next movie Molly Ringwald was in wasn’t as great.  The film “The Pick Up Artist” starring Robert Downey Jr. was considered to be a flop.

In 1988, Molly Ringwald played in a film titled “For Keeps”.  This time she chose a more mature role with Randall Batinkoff, which portrayed two teenagers in love and having a baby.  And then the film “Fresh Horses” was made with Andrew McCarthy in a story of love from the other side of the tracks. Movies Strike it Rich” and “Betsy’s Wedding” followed and then her TV roles began.
