Daisy Duke (played by Catherine Bach) a fictional character made popular from the television series The Dukes of Hazzard. Daisy Duke was the cousin of Bo and Luke who themselves were also cousins on the show. She would often been seen taking part in the Dukes car chases using one of her own dozens of cars. She also worked as a waitress in the The Boar’s Nest, which was Boss Hogg’s restaurant.
Her first car was a 1971 Plymouth Road Runner. When Daisy Duke ended up losing that car over the side of a cliff, her next vehicle became her trademark vehicle. It was a white 1980 Jeep CJ-7 Golden Eagle. She had the Golden Eagle emblem on the hood and she nicknamed the jeep “The Dixie.”
Daisy Duke often came across as a naïve Southern belle. The fact that she dressed rather provocatively didn’t help matters either. Still, she was a very outgoing woman who could definitely hold her own when she needed to. She often had to fight off the drunks at the Boar’s Nest and sometimes found herself in the middle of the ongoing drama between Boss Hogg and her family, the Dukes. Her job at the restaurant as a waitress was an advantage to her because she could eavesdrop on the ongoing private conversations between Boss and the Sheriff (Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane), in which she would often search for and find information that she could pass onto her Uncle Jesse and the rest of the clan at home.
Daisy Duke had a long-time crush on Enos Strate, who was the very shy Sheriff’s deputy. Enos didn’t last long on the show though but still, after he officially departed the show, Daisy Duke remained fairly independent and remained that way throughout the course of the rest of the series.
Daisy Duke was seen as the sex symbol on The Dukes of Hazzard. She often wore revealing clothing such as sexy tank tops and bikinis. Her trademark however though was her short cutoff blue jeans that she often wore. The network thought that her shorts were a little too revealing so they made her wear pantyhose underneath her shorts which in some people’s opinions, had the opposite effect. It’s been known that the official original Daisy Duke poster outsold other posters of sex symbols at the time such as Raquel Welch and Farrah Fawcett.
In 2005, The Dukes of Hazzard was released as a movie and Daisy Duke was portrayed by Jessica Simpson, but in my opinion, she didn’t even come close the original gal features in the TV series.
