Classical Music - To sooth the savage beast!

classical-music.jpgIf you have never heard that term applied to classical music, maybe it should be. This genre encompasses over 2,000 composers and hundreds of years, where some of the best pieces have ever been written and played by such names as Beethoven, Handel, Chopin, Brahms, Bach and Schubert.

You can begin your search for classical music on many a different web site. If you are interested in a particular composer, check out www.classicalarchives.com . They have a plethora of information on all the different composers, timelines of their lives, and all the different kinds of pieces they wrote. You can do all of this for free in the privacy of your own home.

Each composer had different musical abilities and from reading through their biographies, all had some musical talent very evident at an early age. Most didn’t live long, but managed to write huge amounts of what we now know as classical music in a very short amount of time. Ludwig van Beethoven only lived until age 57, which is young by today’s standards, but he is probably the most well known composer of his era.

Every bit of today’s musical pieces can be traced somehow back to classical music. Maybe you may say that you can’t stand listening to it, but almost everyone listens to it in some form or another. Whether in the waiting room of a doctor’s office, or in church, the musical pieces do have a soothing quality and can be appreciated for the genius that it took to compose them, in a time when they didn’t have all the modern conveniences that our musicians do today.

Many different composers wrote classic music over the course of many hundreds of years. There were definite main areas that they tended to write classical music in. These were: vocal, which predominately was done without any musicians at all; orchestral; keyboard, which at that time would have been for a harpsichord, not a piano; chamber; symphonies; operas; and concertos.

The best kind of classical music to hear today would be from the Philharmonic Orchestra. They perform many times a year and would be a treat for those that love classical music. But you can also visit your local church and hear choral selections or go to a local orchestra at a high school and listen to your child play. Whatever venue you look into, just don’t short change yourself from listening to a little classical music ever now and then!
