home-school.jpgWhat are the main advantages and disadvantages of home school? Is it the best choice to make for your child? Is it something you are going to regret a year or more down the road? Is it something that you child will regret? The article on this page explains some of the advantages and disadvantages and may help paint a clearer picture for you in making your decision.

First, here are some advantages of home school. When a family has strong religious or philosophical convictions, it is easier for them to have a policy to transfer those convictions into their curriculum. They are in control of what is being taught. Another is the advantage of socialization. Some don’t agree that children should be kept confined with peers of their age for 6-7 hours a day, rather they should be around those who have more experience and who have behaviors they teach the younger child and act as a role model to them. They also believe that during home school, the environment isn’t being controlled. The students are exposed to things that happen in every day life such as how an adult interacts while living daily. Some believe that students who are in home school can work at their own pace. They are not rushed or left with nothing to do until a bell rings. Plus, on top of everything, the students get to spend time with their families during the day, which is important.

There are several disadvantages of home school and there are many who are against it and don’t believe in it. Some of these problems that have been stated by individuals are that homeschooling children deprives them of sports and important social situations and programs that they could experience. They also believe that being isolated and having no contact with other social and ethnic groups can have a very negative effect. They believe that they don’t get the full curriculum experience and materials that they would have in a classroom setting from professional educators and that being in home school doesn’t give an effective assessment of their true academic standing. Also, there are times where the children aren’t taught by someone who is certified in education. Opposers to a home school program feel that it’s a negative experience for children because it is unable to teach them the values of how to get along with others and learn teamwork and cooperative learning.

If you are thinking about home school for your child, gather all of the information and statistics you can and do your research to make certain that it is going to be the best decision for your child’s future in the end.
