Numerous publications and books describe the United States Government many different ways. Some are positive, some are critical, and some try simply to explain the inner workings of the seemingly monstrous United States Government, page by page.
We often read about the United States Government in the news, but sometimes it’s hard to really know what’s going on. At times, it appears that the amount of information disseminated from the United States Government is lacking when it comes to 1) seeing the rationale behind decisions, or 2) understanding the massive bureaucracies at work behind the scenes, which drive the actions of the United States Government in ways most citizens can’t even begin to grasp.
Congress, the law making branch of the United States Government, often passes acts that are directly contradictory to what the American people believe. Examples would be, acts such as the development of additional services possibly provided by the states, or acts that create some new agency or bureau, which the public isn’t sure they really want. Not only are they diverting effort into superfluous activities, but they are also controlling a vast amount of monetary and personnel resources. It all seems a bit isolated from the people at times.
Despite the flaws, however, the majority of people within the USA are content with it, because we are given many important benefits by living under this system. One thing the United States Government does, which is absolutely critical, is to defend our national security, and that’s just on the federal level. On the state level, the Gov. runs various federally funded services, almost entirely runs our education system, and controls local commerce. The most important accomplishment has been to give the vast majority of its citizens the ability to live peaceful and fulfilling lives. Various people, and even organizations within the United States Government, have occasionally initiated questionable actions. Still, the United States Government - as a whole - has been a highly effective tool for protecting the ability of Americans to attain life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness - to quote Thomas Jefferson’s description of the fundamental rights of all human beings. America continues to have some of the strongest protections for civil liberties in the world, such as privacy, the right to keep and bear arms, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, and freedom of speech.
Whether you are working in an office, or out in a factory, the system of the United States Government may do some things that mystify us, but it also does many things that are essential to our livelihood, which is why living in a developed nation such as America is absolutely something to be thankful for!
