LED Light Bulbs - A bright idea!
They have been around for sometime but most of us still reach for the old standby, the incandescent bulb out of habit. Why? For one, they are much cheaper, or are they? Judging by the price I pay up front, about a $1.00 or less, compared to the $35.00 price tag for LED light bulbs, I’d say I got a bargain. Not so. According to an informational page I researched online, I could have saved a lot more in the long run if I had bought just one of them instead.
Check this out. An incandescent bulb has a life span of about 1,000 hours, but LED light bulbs last 60,000 hours! So that means I will have to buy 60 incandescent for every 1 of the LED light bulbs I buy. I am not saving there.
An incandescent bulb uses 3600 kilowatts of electricity every 60,000 hours, but LED light bulbs only use 120 kilowatts of electricity every 60,000 hours! No savings there either since it costs me $360.00 to use an incandescent bulb and only $12.00 to use LED light bulbs for 60,000 hours. This is considering .10 per kilowatt of electricity used
So if I did my math correctly, I would have saved at least $370.00 in this comparison!
According to a national energy savings report, if every household in the United States replaced just one standard 60 watt bulb with LED light bulbs we could save about 24,184,400,000 watts per day! One of our largest power plants could be eliminated due to the enormous energy savings.
LED light bulbs have usually been used one bulb at a time in many different applications like little portable pen lights, accent lighting, reading lamps, an indicator in electronic devices, and outdoor holiday and Christmas lighting fixtures since they are so durable, energy efficient and cool running.
Now they are being used to produce highly efficient headlights, flashlights, traffic signals and even ones for standard fixtures.
They have other benefits as well. Since they are cool burning elements, they help keep the room cooler and reduce the high cost of home air conditioning. So the next time you reach for a replacement bulb consider the savings and the benefits of replacing them with LED light bulbs.
