But the question is will dad iPod this Father’s Day? He will be iPoding if he gets one that is for sure. But don’t let the summer end until someone gets one!
Since Apple introduced the iPod in 2001, many changes have taken place. They currently offer three new versions of its original music player- the shuffle, the nano, and the color screen iPod. You can plan on spending about $99 to $399 depending on the model. But which one should you choose?
The iPod uses a hard drive, so it’s susceptible to skipping but it does offer greater play times for both music and slide shows. I mean we are talking about 15 hours of continuous play time for music and 5 hours for slide shows. Nano’s time is 1 hour less for each. It allows you to record voice memos with a third party recorder and has all of the music and storage features already turned on. A 20GB iPod has the capacity to hold 5,000 songs and will run you about $299. A 60GB iPod has the capacity to hold 15,000 songs and will run you about $399.
But if you insist on the best Apple has to offer, get a large color screen iPod. It has the ability to display pictures on your home television or projector, has long play times, and enough storage for a very large music library.
The advantage of the nano and the shuffle are that they do not skip since they both have a flash memory instead of a hard drive. The flash memory does not contain moving parts thus eliminates skipping, zips through songs and photos easier and is more durable. The capacity on the nano is 20 GB, about 500 songs and costs $199 and the 4BG has a capacity of 1,000 songs and costs $249.
The least expensive iPod is the shuffle. It’s highly portable and gives you about 12 hours of play time before it needs recharging. It runs $99 for a 512MG which has a capacity for 120 songs and $129 for a 1GB which has a capacity for about 240 songs. The only thing is that it doesn’t include a screen for navigating to specific songs and its capacity is limited, so only people with very small music collections will be able to store an entire library on it.
