Did you ever wonder exactly what fossil fuel is? Do we need it? Do we use it? The answers to all questions are, yes, yes, yes! It is a naturally occurring fuel rich in carbon and hydrogen found in the ground formed by the decomposition of prehistoric organisms. In other words, dinosaur bones and plants make up fossil fuel. Common names for fossil fuel that we commonly use today include coal, natural gas and fuels made from crude oil such as petrol and diesel.
Fossil fuel is also commonly called minerals fuel, is primarily a hydrocarbon-containing natural resource. And Americans are addicted to it! To be fair, the entire global economic market centers on gas or oil. Large-scale conflicts have centered on oil. Each year, consumption continues to rise. If you think about it, you can’t do anything in today’s society without consuming it in one form or another. America has grown bigger and bigger vehicles that eat up huge amounts of gas and diesel each year. The emissions put out by these vehicles increase carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, literally choking us. The lights that power your home use fossil fuel. Styrofoam and most plastic products use fossil fuel in the making process.
Each year America imports millions of barrels of crude oil for energy and power and fuel for vehicles. This puts American in an extremely vulnerable global position because other countries know we want and need oil, so it drives up the price. Alaska has a huge supply of crude oil, but due to restraints by conservationists, a lot of the crude can’t be tapped.
America needs to start looking at alternatives to our continued addiction of fossil fuel. We need to find a renewable energy source. As supply and greed become a factor, creative Americans will force a change and people are already working on cost effective sources to product renewable energy at much lower prices than what we currently use. Because, if we don’t change, and alternatives are not found, our future generations may not have any fossil fuel left to worry about!
There is already people using corn as a derivative to making gasoline and its working but right now is expensive. The big shots in the oil industry also don’t want this change to start happening, because they will lose money. Fossil fuel is big business and too many of the rich and famous have their hands in the crude!
