Occupational therapists are individuals who have medical careers where they help people who have specific conditions that are medically, physically or emotionally disabling that prevent them from performing tasks in their daily living and working surroundings. They help people improve their basic motor functions and help them live productive and satisfying lives.

Physical therapists are those with medical careers who provide assistance to individuals who need to restore function with their bodies and they help to prevent permanent disabilities of people who have suffered an injury or have a disease. They restore and help promote overall fitness and health. Their patients may include accident victims, people with arthritis, heart disease and head injuries.

Dental hygienists have medical careers where they teach their patients how to keep up with good hygiene. A hygienist provides overall dental care and examine patients gums and teeth, they remove plaque and tarter, take x rays, apply fluoride treatments and in some areas, they do fillings, remove sutures and smooth and polish the teeth. Although they are not able to diagnose diseases with the teeth that the patients may have, they are an aide right along side the dentist during treatment to the end.

Optometrists have medical careers where they provide primary vision care to individuals. They examine eyes and diagnose any problems and/or diseases and they test their patients’ visual depth, color perception and ability to focus their eyes. They can also prescribe eyeglasses and contact lenses, perform laser surgery, and also prescribe drugs to treat diseases that may occur in the eyes.

Pharmacists have medical careers in which they distribute the drugs that are prescribed by a physician and they also provide individuals with information about the medications they are taking and how to use them. They monitor the health of the patient who is using the drugs that they prescribe to make sure they are using them safely and to make certain they are effective. Most pharmacists perform their services within their communities or in a health care facility.

Finally, but certainly not the last area of medical careers that one could pursue, veterinarians are the ones who play a huge role in the healthcare of pets and many other animals. Their career gives them the authority to diagnose animals’ problems, administer vaccines, medicate for any infections or illness, perform surgery and advise pet owners on general health and behavior.
