Ebay Selling - A guide for the beginner

ebay-selling.jpgEbay selling and buying has become very popular over the last few years and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. If you have lots of stuff taking up space and cluttering your home that you just want to get rid of, Ebay selling may be for you.

To get started Ebay selling, you will need to register to sell. If you are a new user you will need to provide some basic information such as your address, phone, etc. If you have already bought items through the site, your information should already be there. Simply click the “Sell” tab to get started.

When beginning Ebay selling, you should search for similar items to find out what categories the other sellers are listing their item under, what their prices are, how they describe them and if they have provided photos of their item. Choose a category, as this is an important part of the auctioning process. If potential buyers cannot find your items, they can’t bid on them. Look at other auctions for similar items to figure out what the most logical and best location for your items is.

The next step in Ebay selling is to write a description of your product. Your title should catch the buyer’s attention so that they will want to click on your item and ultimately bid on it. Use as much information as you can. For an added fee, you can add highlighting, bold text, and other features that will make your item listing more noticeable.

Select a format in which to list your item for Ebay selling. There is the classic auction format, the Buy It Now feature, a fixed price auction, or Dutch-style auction in which you can sell multiples of the same item in the same listing.

The next step in Ebay selling is to set your price. Setting a price can be complicated, depending on which format you choose. An easy way to list and sell is to use the option of “reserve price”. This is a price in which you won’t go below in order to sell your item. Unless the bidding meets or exceeds the reserve price, the item won’t sell.

Determine what the length of your Ebay selling auction will be. The Ebay selling default is seven days, but you can select different lengths, less than seven or up to ten days. You will also want to list where your auction is located, for shipping reasons.

One of the most important steps in Ebay selling is to upload pictures of your item, taken from various angles. Be sure the pictures are clear and can be viewed easily on the computer screen. As a buyer, I have often found pictures in auctions very helpful and an important deciding factor on whether or not to purchase an item.

Indicate the forms of payment you will accept. The more forms of payment you will accept may increase the amount of bidders you receive because it makes it easier for the buyer. Payment can be through PayPal which allows you to accept credit card and checking account payments online.

List shipping costs, which most sellers require the buyer to pay for. However, offering free shipping is a great way to make your item stand out from the others.

You can sell almost anything via Ebay selling! It’s a simple and easy way to reach potential buyers, and it will help you clear some of the clutter around your house.
