Electric Cars - The wave of the future

Electric CarsElectric Cars are vehicles that have electricity running through their motors for propulsion.  This happens when the wheels or the propellers are driven by the rotary motors or linear motors.  The energy from electric cars is usually powered by chemical energy which is stored on the vehicle in batteries, from a onboard rechargeable energy storage system and a fueled power source (hybrid), generation from a combustion engine such as what is used in diesel locomotives, generation from a fuel cell, generation from nuclear energy such as what is used on nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers, from esoteric sources such as wind and solar or from a direct connection to generation plants such as what trains use.

Why would electric cars be a good choice for someone who is looking to purchase a vehicle?  This site will tell you!  For one, they can be controlled.  They are extremely efficient and have a very simple mechanical incline.  Their motors have a 90% conversion efficiency and can provide high torque while they are stopped.  They do not require shifting gears for power curves.  Because of this, electric cars do not require gearboxes and torque converters.  Their motors also have the ability to convert energy back into electricity through something called regenerative braking.  This helps to reduce the wear on brakes and reduces the energy required for a trip from beginning to end.

Today in the United States, there are more people who drive electric cars than one would think.  The EAA reports that there are ten thousand full-sized electric cars that are on the road today.  Their future looks bright among drivers.  Advancements of the lithium-based battery, which are mostly due to the consumer electronics industry, have allowed full-sized electric cars to be propelled as far on a single charge as conventional vehicles go on one tank of gas.  Lithium batteries are safe to use, can be recharged in minutes and can now last longer than a typical vehicle.  News says that the cost for production of these lithium-based batteries is slowly decreasing as the technology grows and the volume of production increases.

Some of the top benefits that would attract people to thinking about electric cars of course are the rising costs of gasoline.  Individuals would only have to pay for the electricity they need to recharge their batteries for their car. Research is currently being conducted to figure out how to increase the life span of the batteries and the power output.
