Their business began back in 1980 when this seventh grade boy by the name of Jesse James took a regular bicycle and customized it. He then turned around and sold it. This was the beginning of the empire. West Coast Choppers was formed by Jesse James (who is related to a cousin of the legendary outlaw Jesse James) about 10 years ago and it’s grown so huge since then that it has taken on its own life. At first, it was only a small team of 50 men in a tiny 18,000 square foot shop. Today, they build and manufacture their custom motorcycles in over 250,000 square feet in an industrial warehouse in Long Beach, California.
If you are one of the lucky owners of custom motorcycles by the West Coast Choppers, you are considered extremely fortunate. There have only been about 200 bikes that have been built over the last ten years and each of them has a unique personalized design from their frame to their exhaust from start to finish.
The level of skill and workmanship that goes into building these custom motorcycles calls for individuals with the most talent and highest skills. They are mostly a gang of guys whose love for cycles has made them become the best that is out there.
In 2001, the West Coast Choppers had their official rise to stardom with their custom motorcycles when they released shows on the Discovery Channel called Motorcycle Mania I, II and III. In 2006, Jesse James narrated a show on the Discovery Channel called “History of the Chopper” where he’s shown making his own bike to commemorate the 1960’s.
