Are you looking for something to do during the cold and wintry months? Winter crafts are fun to do with your kids while it is snowing and blowing outside. Winter crafts can be found in books, craft stores, and on the internet. There are many winter crafts ideas that you can do for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Super Bowl, and any other event that occurs during the cold months of December, January, and February.
I remember when I was in elementary school; we made winter crafts as gifts for Christmas. One project I remember making was a snow globe. Below are a couple of simple winter crafts ideas that you can do with your kids.
Snow Globe
Supplies needed:
- Baby food jars (medium or large) or any other type of jar with a lid
- Florist clay
- White and/or silver glitter or fake snow
- Small figurine
- Hot glue gun
- Plastic greenery (optional)
Instructions:
- Wash and dry your jar completely, including the lid.
- Attach the figurine to the inside of the jar lid using florist clay. Check out how it looks by placing the empty jar over the top of your figurine. Attach any optional items (greenery) using the clay. Hint: Make sure whatever you use is waterproof and won’t dissolve.
- Fill the jar with COLD water to within 1/2 inch (1 cm) of top.
- Sprinkle ½ teaspoon of glitter, or “ snow” into water. This measurement is based on a medium to large baby food jar, so use more if you are using a larger jar.
- Using hot glue gun, line the inside of the lid with glue.
- Place the figurine in the water and screw on lid.
- Dab the lid dry if any water drips or spills. Apply a layer of hot glue around the rim of the lid to seal it shut.
- Let stand overnight to dry with the lid side up.
- If you wish, decorate the rim after the glue has dried.
