Dark Poetry - A cause for concern
I will admit that I didn’t’ know much about dark poetry until recently, but I’m glad I researched it. Also known as gothic, dark poetry usually deals with death, sadness, depression, and pain. I found that sometimes the poems dealt with love or a broken heart, problems in life, problems with parents and other people, and even religion. However some of the poems I encountered and read dealt heavily in darkness and delved into the realm of evil, which I found very disturbing.
Dark poetry can be beautiful in some ways and produce healing in some people. This type of writing could be a healthy outlet for some people to express the pain and suffering they may be dealing with. By expressing things out loud someone may be able to better deal with emotions they are feeling and thoughts in their mind. These poems may help others who are feeling the same things by reading the poems and being able to relate to someone else with similar problems and situations. However, if someone is in a sullen state most of the time or has thoughts of suicide, writing poems may not be the solution to the underlying problems. It is true that bad things happen and life isn’t all happy a light, but constantly dwelling on the bad and not seeing the good is extremely unhealthy.
Dark poetry is still an art form, as it is poems written by poets with much talent. Everyone will have their opinion about what should or should not be expressed and some will be offended. If my child was writing poems or stories like this I would be concerned, but I would certainly want to talk to them and get to the bottom of the feelings and emotions they were experiencing. I don’t think living in darkness and sadness is a healthy way to live. Dark poetry can be a warning sign for any parent that something much deeper is going on with their child.
While most of the poems I found were just darker in an emotional and depressing way, some of it, like I stated before had an evil feel to it. For example, one poem actually is in the form of a prayer but made reference to Satan. Any form of dark poetry such as this is alarming, as it is demonic and I feel shouldn’t be read by anyone.
