I’ve noticed my past couple trips to Michaels crafts they have added even more to their huge craft beads section. The only time I personally ever used craft beads was in the 80’s when everyone was making friendship pins for each other. They were very simple and the girls just put them on their shoe lace. We never had the choice of so many different styles, colors, or types of craft beads.
With almost two entire rows in the store dedicated to just bead crafting I though t I would give it a try. So, I gave it some thought and I picked out some green and black craft beads. It just so happened to be right in time for the Super bowl game and our own Philadelphia Eagles were playing. I took my things home and that night I sat with my sons and a couple of their friends and we all made necklace for the Eagles super bowl party at school. We made one for everyone in the class and a couple of the teachers. This was such a great project for boys. They had so much fun. And the best part was that it was cheap. My 6 year old wore his green and black necklace until just about the end of summer vacation. I was a great conversation piece. Every where we went someone would notice. Even though the Eagles lost the Super Bowl he was still showing his support for the team.
After I had so much luck with the bead crafting project I thought it would be worth it to try some more. I started my search on line. I found these cute little bracelets to make. They were made with ribbon and craft beads made of glass. I you wanted you could add little charms or make matching necklaces. The ideas were endless. The glass craft beads came in all different colors and then you would get ribbon to get with them. It’s the perfect handmade gift for a little girl.
The more I searched the more I learned about craft beads. I was able to find out how I could make my own with clay. You buy the clay and shape them any way you like. There are also wooden craft beads. Wooden craft beads would be nice to make a necklace for a boy. The wood gives it a more masculine look.
If someone told me they want to try making handmade crafts with craft beads, my first suggestion would be to log onto the internet and do a search on Google. I free ideas are endless. Not only will you find lots of ideas but you can even find a store that you can buy all the supplies you need and ship them right to you house. If you aren’t able to look for projects online there are a couple of really good books that you can buy at Michaels.
