Arts and Crafts - Create gifts with love

arts-and-crafts1.jpgDo you enjoy doing arts and crafts? Arts and crafts projects can be done for any holiday or occasion—Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, birthdays, etc. You name it; you can find an arts and crafts project to fit your needs.A great arts and crafts store which also has a website and online store is Michaels. If you are interested in learning a particular craft or technique, search for your local store’s location and see if they offer classes on what you are interested in. The Michaels website showed classes such as scrapbooking, cake decorating, painting, floral arrangement, knitting, and crocheting. There is also a kids club that offers crafts and activities for children and the whole family. Check for class times in your area.

The Michael’s arts and crafts store website was very easy to navigate, and it offers hundreds of ideas for any occasion. I checked out several Valentines Day projects that looked easy and inexpensive.

Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and birthdays are a great time to make arts and crafts projects for those special women in your life—mom, grandmother, daughter, sister. All the special women in my life and my children’s lives enjoy receiving homemade gifts that were created with special love and care. Following are some simple, inexpensive Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day or birthday crafts ideas.

  • Buy a paper mache heart-shaped box. Paint it red, pink, or white. Use a glue gun to glue red, pink, or white buttons to the top. Fill the box with candies or treats for a special Valentine’s Day gift for that special someone.
  • Buy a piece of slate at your local arts and crafts store. You can find them in various shapes with a string on ready for hanging. Have your kids make their handprints or footprints on them.
  • Buy t-shirts or sweatshirts, decal transfers, and fabric paint. You can also print out your own decals at home using a photograph or special picture. Iron on the transfer, then let your kids decorate the shirts with fabric paints.
  • Buy unfinished picture frames and decorate with your kid’s thumbprints, or have your kids decorate them with things like buttons, seashells, pom-poms, candy hearts, or beads. Place a photo in the frame for an extra special gift.
  • Make a stepping stone (these kits can be found in most stores that sell craft supplies).

Whatever arts and crafts project you choose, remember that whatever you make, it doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive. Gifts made with love and care will be treasured for a lifetime.
